The Home Gateway is the successor to the widely popular STB. While the STB primarily focuses on providing TV services, the HGW is designed to be a more versatile device. The HGW’s features include control of IPTV services, CPE to network interface, IMS terminal, media storage, advanced security, and Femto Cell. As more services are delivered via IP transport networks, the HGW’s popularity is expected to rise significantly, especially since many STBs cannot handle the new generation of services.
