Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Thursday announced that the company changed its corporate name to Meta, this of course will include (Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, .. etc)
The name Meta reflects its work investing in the metaverse, rather than its namesake social media service, which will continue to be called Facebook.
The metaverse is a term that refers broadly to the idea of a shared virtual realm which can be accessed by people using different devices.
“The metaverse will feel like a hybrid of today’s online social experiences, sometimes expanded into three dimensions or projected into the physical world. It will let you share immersive experiences with other people even when you can’t be together — and do things together you couldn’t do in the physical world,” it said.
The company, which has invested heavily in augmented and virtual reality, said the change would bring together its different apps and technologies under one new brand. It said it would not change its corporate structure.
According to Zuckerberg, the world is at the beginning of the next chapter for the internet, and it’s also the next chapter for the company.
