T-Mobile US launched 5G mid band ultra-capacity on 2.5 Ghz

T-Mobile U.S. stated that it has launched it’s “Ultra Capacity” 5G service through the 5G Standalone technology across the country and is accessible through midband spectrum at 2.5 GHz.

The company said that the expansion will enable customers throughout the nation to enjoy faster speeds, while also reducing any lag within the network, with lower latency. This will help in applications like gaming, which require near-real-time speed.

“Transformative 5G networks are here, and T-Mobile is leading the charge with not just the largest, fastest and most reliable 5G network, but the most advanced as well. We’re driving the industry forward with 5G standalone and delivering a level of performance for customers that can’t be achieved otherwise,” said Neville Ray, president of technology at T-Mobile U.S.

With this upgrade in technology, T-Mobile U.S further stated that it is opening up new possibilities for 5G carrier aggregation (NR CA), that is the process of combining various layers of spectrum to increase capacity and speed, resulting in high-speeds that exceed 3 Gbps.

5G Carrier Aggregation allows T-Mobile to combine multiple 5G carriers to deliver greater speed and performance. For this testing, T-mobile has merged 3 5G networks with 2 channels of 2.5 GHz ultra capacity 5G, and one channel in the 1900 MHz spectrum to create an effective 210 MHz channel. This is more than 3 Gbps of speed!

Customers with the Samsung Galaxy S22   will be the first to take advantage of this new feature in the coming weeks and the capability will be extended to other devices in the near term .
