5G is safe new guidelines from ICNIRP

5G is safe, according to the global body in charge of establishing limits on exposure to radiation, which has upgraded its advisory guidelines for the very first time in more than two decades.
The Germany-based scientific body that examines the health threats of radio broadcasts is the (ICNIRP) The International Compensation on Non‐Ionizing Radiation Protection which called for brand-new guidelines targeted mainly for millimetre-wave 5G, the most high-frequency variation of the telecommunications standard.

Dr Eric van Rongen, the ICNIRP chair, said: “The new guidelines have been developed after a thorough review of all relevant scientific literature, scientific workshops and an extensive public consultation process. They provide protection against all scientifically substantiated adverse health effects due to [electromagnetic field] exposure in the 100 kHz to 300 GHz range.”

Even though the previous guidelines for magnetic field exposure were drafted 22 years back, the commission still maintained that they remained to offer adequate protection, with just little updates required to take into account 5G.

“When we revised the guidelines, we looked at the adequacy of the ones we published in 1998. We found that the previous ones were conservative in most cases, and they’d still provide adequate protection for current technologies,” Van Rongen said.   “However, the new guidelines provide better and more detailed exposure guidance in particular for the higher frequency range, above 6 GHz, which is of importance to 5G and future technologies using these higher frequencies. The most important thing for people to remember is that 5G technologies will not be able to cause harm when these new guidelines are adhered to.”

Higher frequencies like Mmwave communicate with organic tissue in a different way, dissipating even more power at the surface and penetrating less, which implies the new standards take measurements throughout a smaller sized sample, and especially focus on the power absorbed by, rather than just subjected to, a body.

Some people had actually been concerned that 5G might cause health dangers such as an increased rate of cancerous tumors, although health experts have confirmed that 5G is safe. The new standards from ICNIRP confirm that the public does not need to worry about the health impacts of 5G.
