The 5G spectrum resources defined in the 3GPP protocol can be divided into two frequency ranges, FR1 and FR2 :
- FR1 includes Sub6 Ghz bands and is also called low frequency bands. It is the primary band for 5G. The frequencies below 3 Ghz are called sub-3Ghz, and the others are referred to as C-band.
- FR2 is the mmwave of 6 Ghz or higher and is also referred to as the high frequency bands, which are extended bands for 5G. There are excessisve spectrum ressources available in FR2.
You can see the details of FR1 (Sub 6Ghz ) as defined per 3GPP 38.104, and you can see below the FR2 :
All frequency bands defined in the current protocol for mmwave use the TDD duplex mode, and the maximum cell bandwith is 400 Mhz.
