Deutsche Telekom and Ericsson have achieved a groundbreaking milestone by introducing a groundbreaking solution for tailoring and managing network slices across the entire spectrum of enterprise cloud-based applications. This remarkable integration marks a world-first accomplishment. In a successful proof-of-concept (PoC), the two companies have effectively established a secure network slice that seamlessly connects to private cloud services.
The PoC was executed within a Deutsche Telekom laboratory, utilizing a 5G Standalone (SA) testbed. Enterprise smartphones were employed to establish connections with a predefined selection of private cloud applications. Ericsson delivered the 5G Core network, Radio Access Network (RAN), and end-to-end orchestration, which encompassed the Unified Resource Slice Planning (URSP) functionality.
The solution addresses an enterprise’s need, ensuring that their employees receive optimal network performance for seamless and secure operation of cloud-based workplace applications. Specifically designed with enterprise usability in mind, it offers automated configuration, provisioning, and end-to-end orchestration of the enterprise slicing service order. Importantly, this functionality is enabled without requiring any additional configuration from the user on their enterprise devices.
Within this integrated solution, a slice design tool enables an enterprise’s IT administrators to flexibly manage, monitor and analyze slice performance. Via a single management interface, the administrator can customize, order, configure and manage an end-to-end network consisting of enterprise smart phone devices, a 5G network slice and private cloud services. Enterprise employees can then access private cloud-based applications on their enterprise smartphone device via a secure network slice over the public network.
