As of 30 September 2025, AT&T was the third “nationwide” mobile network
operator (MNO) in the US, with a 27.5% market share behind T-Mobile (36.9%)
and Verizon Wireless (33.7%). US MNOs have deployed 5G using three layers of
spectrum: low-band (<1GHz), mid-band (3.5-6 GHz) and high-band (24GHz-40
GHz) also called millimeter wave (mmWave).
AT&T launched its commercial 39GHz mmWave 5G network in December 2018.
In September 2025, mmWave 5G connectivity (branded “5G+”) was available in
selected parts of 50 cities. 5G+ offers extra speed and capacity and is intended
for high-traffic areas like campuses and arenas
